Satellite TV or Cable TV – Which Is More Reliable?

July 11, 2009 · No Comments · Uncategorized

I was a cable television subscriber for at least 10 years. Unfortunately, my experience with cable television was not what I would call a positive one. I was never satisfied with the quality of the reception and could not understand why I was not receiving the crystal-clear picture I expected to receive with cable.
Beyond my displeasure with the quality of the reception I was getting with cable TV, I was also not happy about the price increases that the cable company was imposing on me. There had to be at least three increases a year during the time I was a customer.
Although much has changed with cable TV service since I was a customer, I know that they have not changed their ways when it comes to frequent price increases. I live in an area where the only option for high-speed Internet service is provided by the local cable television company. Since I really do need high-speed Internet access, I am still dealing with frequent price increases imposed on me by the cable TV company today.
For an unhappy cable TV customer like me, I knew I had to try satellite television. I chose Dish Network because I liked their programming packages better than the other satellite service.
When I first signed up with Dish Network I was very happy with the service and that has not changed at all. I am even happier with the service today because I upgraded my service to high-definition a while ago and I just love it. I have experienced very few problems with my Dish Network service – far fewer problems than I had with cable TV.
Don’t believe what the cable TV companies say about satellite TV and the weather. The cable television companies want you to think that satellite TV customers lose their reception when it rains or snows and that just isn’t true. We have had very few weather-related outages the entire time I have had Dish Network service and those were only with very heavy rain. Unless you live in an area that has frequent tropical downpours, you should not experience many weather-related outages.
Despite what the cable television companies say about weather-related disruptions on satellite TV, in my experience, it is actually cable television that is more subject to weather-related outages. I recall outages with cable that were caused by wind storms, ice storms and snow storms that brought cable TV lines down and left me without service for a day or two. In contrast, the weather-related outages I have experienced with Dish Network have been brief – lasting no more than a half hour at most.
In my opinion – as both a cable television and satellite television customer – I would select Dish Network as the winner of the reliability contest over cable television without a doubt. With no wires to rely on for bringing the signal to your home, all you really need to watch satellite TV is electric power.
